Cairo Commemorates Gallipoli Victory: A Timeless Legacy of Sacrifice

The Embassy of Turkey in Cairo held a ceremony to mark Martyrs’ Day (March 18) and the 111th anniversary of the Gallipoli Campaign at the Turkish Martyrs’ Cemetery in Cairo, with broad official and community participation.

The event began with a moment of silence and the national anthem, followed by speeches and poetry highlighting the bravery and sacrifices of Ottoman soldiers during one of history’s most defining battles.

In his remarks, Turkish Ambassador to Cairo Salih Mutlu Şen emphasized that the Gallipoli victory was not only a military success, but also a powerful symbol of faith, unity, and national spirit that changed the course of history.

He also highlighted the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk during the campaign, describing it as a turning point in his rise, and noted that this legacy continues to shape Turkey today.

The ceremony concluded with a Quran recitation and prayers for the martyrs, reflecting deep historical and humanitarian ties.
