In implementation of the decision of the Council of Arab Transport Ministers No. (535) in its regular session (36) dated 10/24/2023, regarding the establishment of an Arab technical committee to exchange experiences in the field of directed transport (metro, tramway, cable transport), paragraph 1 of which stipulated that the General Secretariat of the League be assigned to establish a railway transport committee concerned with railway transport issues of all kinds, as the twenty-first meeting of the Junior Committees for Land, Sea and Multimodal Transport, which was held in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia , in May 2024, confirmed in its recommendations the establishment of an Arab technical committee to exchange experiences in the field of directed transport (metro, tramway, and cable transport), and accordingly. The committee was held with the participation of representatives of the Arab member states and the Arab Union of Railways.
The committee discussed the topic referred to it by the Council of Arab Transport Ministers, which is related to the future of rail transport in the Arab region. The Arab member states reviewed their experiences and expertise in the field of rail transport in all its forms for the benefit of the countries that need these experiences to implement them. This meeting is considered a step towards rail connectivity between the Arab countries, as any rail transport agreement initially requires upgrading the rail transport infrastructure in all member states individually.
