Speaking from President Donald Trump’s first second-term Cabinet meeting, Elon Musk said the email blast requiring federal workers to detail their past week’s work was wrongly interpreted as a performance review, and “it actually was a pulse check.”
“I think that, you know, perhaps, was first interpreted as a performance review, but it actually it was a pulse check,” Musk said.
“But what we are trying to get to the bottom of is we think there are a number of people on the government payroll who are dead, which is probably why they can’t respond,” Musk said from the Cabinet room of the White House. “Our will is not to be capricious or unfair,” he added after saying another email will be sent.
However, Trump was quick to interrupt to claim those federal workers who have not replied to the email “are on the bubble” and at risk of getting fired.
“Those million people that haven’t responded to Elon, they are on the bubble,” Trump said.
“Those people are on the bubble, as they say. Maybe they’re going to be gone, maybe they’re not around, maybe they have other jobs, maybe they moved, and they’re not where they’re supposed to be.” Trump added.
