In a step to strengthen cultural ties between Egypt and Turkey, the Turkish Ambassador to Egypt, Saleh Mutlu Şen, expressed his warm welcome to hosting a group of prominent Egyptian actors and actresses.

In a press statement issued by the Turkish Embassy in Cairo, Ambassador Şen emphasized that this initiative aims to enhance cultural and social cooperation between the two nations. He noted that discussions focused on the contributions of these artists to cultural and charitable social events.

“We are delighted to host an elite group of Egyptian cinema stars who have agreed to participate in our cultural and charitable activities,” Şen stated. He added, “We discussed the history of Egyptian and Turkish cinema, with a focus on renowned Egyptian actors who starred in Turkish films during the 1960s, such as the late Farid al-Atrash, who left an unforgettable mark on our shared cultural memory.”

The ambassador highlighted that the talks included the secrets behind the success of Turkish TV series, pointing to advanced technical capabilities, a focus on social issues, and substantial financial resources that attract talent. “These elements have made Turkish productions globally distinguished,” he elaborated.

Both sides expressed hope for launching joint Egyptian-Turkish film and TV series projects inspired by the shared history of the two countries. Ambassador Şen acknowledged Egypt as the hub of Arab cinema, noting that Egyptian films in the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s enjoyed massive followings in Turkey. He attributed the popularity of Turkish series in Egypt to the cultural and social similarities between the two peoples, which allow Egyptian audiences to easily connect with the stories.

Şen further affirmed that these events are part of broader efforts to strengthen cultural ties, referencing previous activities such as the Turkish Cultural Center hosting Egyptian and diplomatic figures, as well as an awards night for Turkish and Egyptian actors in Cairo.

The ambassador concluded his statement by saying, “We look forward to a future with more creative collaborations that reflect our shared heritage.”
