The International Conference of Speakers of Parliaments 2025 kicked off today, Tuesday, in the Pakistani capital Islamabad, with wide participation from parliamentary leaders and speakers representing more than 40 countries, under the chairmanship of Senate Chairman Yusuf Raza Gilani.
The two-day conference is being held under the theme “Promoting Peace, Development, Cooperation, and Democratic Dialogue,” bringing together parliamentary leaders to discuss key regional and international security challenges, as well as issues related to sustainable development and the role of parliaments in supporting global peace and stability.
The conference agenda focuses on several key topics, including strengthening international cooperation to address conflicts and tensions, the legislative and oversight role of parliaments in promoting good governance, in addition to combating terrorism, advancing social justice, and protecting human rights.
In his opening address, Senate Chairman Yusuf Raza Gilani emphasized that hosting this important conference comes at a time when the world is facing increasing challenges that require collective parliamentary and diplomatic efforts to build a future grounded in peace and prosperity.
The conference is expected to conclude with joint recommendations that will strengthen international parliamentary cooperation and support democratic dialogue as a means to resolve conflicts and achieve sustainable development.
