Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm commitment to peace, development, shared prosperity, and multilateralism, emphasizing that sustainable development is the most effective means to counter instability and conflict.

Speaking at the International Conference of Speakers of Parliaments 2025, which opened today in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Senate Chairman Yusuf Raza Gilani and with the participation of delegates from around 34 national parliaments, the Prime Minister highlighted Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to advance national progress under the theme “Peace, Security, and Development.”

Shehbaz Sharif underscored that his government is pursuing comprehensive reforms aimed at achieving inclusive growth, strengthening institutions, and empowering youth and women. He also pointed to Pakistan’s initiatives to promote innovation, artificial intelligence, and information technology as key drivers of the country’s future development.

The Prime Minister noted that, in addition to implementing a domestic reform agenda, Pakistan is working closely with international financial institutions and development partners to enhance fiscal discipline, build climate resilience, and attract investment, with all efforts directed toward ensuring shared prosperity.

Reiterating Pakistan’s readiness to cooperate with all international partners, Shehbaz Sharif mentioned the United States, China, the Gulf states, the European Union, Japan, the Middle East, and Central Asia as key stakeholders in achieving the shared objectives of peace, development, and multilateral cooperation.

On the Afghan issue, the Prime Minister stressed that a stable, secure, and prosperous Afghanistan is essential for regional connectivity. He asserted that lasting peace cannot be achieved without curbing terrorist groups, including the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which operates from Afghan territory.

Shehbaz Sharif warned that terrorist organizations continue to threaten peace not only in Afghanistan but across the broader region. He also noted that Pakistan has faced unprovoked aggression from India and Afghanistan, adding that the Pakistan Armed Forces responded decisively and appropriately to any provocations, while affirming that Pakistan will not allow any violation of its sovereignty.

Concluding his remarks, the Prime Minister stated that Pakistan’s vision is founded on cooperation, not confrontation, and on building a more just and stable global order rooted in mutual respect, partnership in development, and lasting peace.
