China Calls for Global Unity on the Anniversary of Victory Over Fascism

In a high-level seminar held this morning in Cairo, Zhang Tao, Chargé d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Egypt, delivered a comprehensive speech reviewing recent significant Chinese events, with a particular focus on commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Chinese people’s victory over Japanese aggression and the global war against fascism, as well as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Tianjin.

Commemorating a Historic Victory: Messages to the World

The first part of Zhang’s speech focused on the ceremony held on September 3 in Beijing, which included a grand military parade in Tiananmen Square, where President Xi Jinping delivered a significant address and reviewed the troops.

The event was attended by Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir as a special envoy of President Sisi, alongside 61 international leaders, heads of government, and representatives of international organizations.

Zhang posed the question: “Why does China commemorate this victory on such a grand scale?” He answered by outlining three key messages.

First, the commemoration serves as a reminder of the strategic importance of the Chinese battlefield, where the Chinese people resisted invaders in a war between “justice and evil,” making immense sacrifices totaling 35 million victims.

He stressed that China’s War of Resistance was a fundamental part of the global war against fascism, starting earlier and lasting longer, contributing to supporting the Allies and saving human civilization. Zhang highlighted the pivotal role of the Chinese Communist Party in building a united international front, describing the victory as a turning point for the Chinese nation’s rejuvenation and sowing the seeds of friendship with Egypt in their shared struggle against colonialism. He also pointed to a photo exhibition at the venue, which transported attendees back to that historical period in tribute to the martyrs.

Second, preserving the post-war international order, established by China as a victorious nation alongside other countries, centered on the United Nations and its Charter.
